1. Henry Pettibone was born in 1780 in New York State, USA. He died on 9 Dec 1860. He was buried in Grafton, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada.
The Pettibones have been a particularly difficult line of my family to unravel, but I am now reasonably confident that the following description, albeit brief, is correct. Primarily using US census and Canadian baptism records, I have assembed the names of the children of Henry Pettibone in this section. I am also grateful to Chuck Pettibone for his input.
Henry was born in NY State and was living in Johnstown, NY with his family by 1800. In 1810 he is in the census at Oppenheim (now in Fulton County) with his wife Hannah, children James and Sarah, and one unidentified adult female. By 1817 the family had moved to Cobourg, Ontario, and they appear in various early censuses there. The children were baptised at Cobourg and descendants remain in the area. Henry is recorded in the census of 14 Jan 1861, though he died the previous month and was buried at Fairview Cemetery near Grafton. His tombstone is upright and still in good condition as of 2004. The inscription includes that it was "erected by his youngest daughter Electa." Henry was often called Harry, as was true of his grandson Henry Harnden, and many other Henrys, such as Prince Harry, grandson of Queen Elizabeth II.
Henry was the son of Jacob Pettibone (8 Jan 1760, Norfolk Twp, CT - 22 Aug 1840, Manheim, NY) and Sarah (ca1762 - 3 Jun 1832). Henry's Pettibone line had been in Connecticut for at least three generation before him.
Henry married Hannah about 1804. Hannah was born about 1787 in New York State, USA. She died after 1871.

She was christened on 26 May 1822 in Haldimand, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada. She died on 29 Sep 1878 in Johnsburg, New York, USA. She was buried in Weavertown, New York, USA. Electa married Edward Richards son of John Richards and Sarah Rees. Edward was born on 2 Apr 1815 in Weavertown, New York, USA. He died on 8 May 1891 in Johnsburg, New York, USA.
