The 1st Manitoba Open of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Grappling

John, AJ and Terik Branwell

On April 29th AJ was matched up against Terik Branwell from Edmonton Alberta in a scheduled 10 minute Super Fight.

The fight started out with both fighters feeling each other out by locking up in the head clinch and fighting for hand grips. AJ starts the fight by jumping guard and locks on a body triangle. Terik with good posture remains standing with AJ hanging from the guard.

Terik refusing to go down into AJ's guard AJ goes back to standing circling looking for an opening. That's when Terik makes an attempt to jump guard but with no success. With AJ now looking over Terik AJ jumps into the half mount position.

AJ in the cross position attacks the right arm of Terik but Terik defends his arm very well. The remaining of the ten minute match was in this position with no points scored. If there were advantages AJ would win by the Advantages. But they go into one minute sudden death overtime. Again they start out circling each other and with a quick explosion AJ gets the takedown winning 2-0.

AJ also entered the Advanced GI division where he would meet Terik again with his first match. This was also a great match were both fighters fought for their grips and AJ quickly pulling butterfly guard. AJ immediately caught Terick with a beautiful De la Riva hook sweep scoring 2 winning the match 2-0.

AJ went on to fight 6 more fights, tapping one guy with a sneaky GI Choke and the other by Kimura. Through the whole event AJ managed not to get a single point scored on him.
