Photos from the Round Lake Weekend 2009

Steve:
What an ultimate, amazing blast. I forgot how much I love all of you people.
Kandi:
NEW GAMES/ACTIVITIES: Slippy Slide, and the Golf Ball Game
OLD FAVORITES BACK AGAIN: Washer Boxes
CONSPICUOUSLY ABSENT: Everyone who wasn't there
QUOTABLE QUOTES: Murry "I think I'm Steve's wrist band! "
Best Event of the weekend: Hugs
Worse thing that happened at the campsite: Leaving
Best drink you personally consumed: Espresso Vodka
Best food: Bree YUM Thanks Holly
Best behaved child (and why): All of them. There were no fights, tantrums, and they all looked out for each other
Worst behaved adult (and why): Leen and Scott. Better left forgotten
What was your favorite thing that happened this weekend? As always just sitting around the fire and talking.
Tell us about your favorite game of the weekend, whether it was watching or participating: Ultimate frisbee... hilarious
If you could have altered one thing about the Round Lake Weekend this year, what would it be? Longer
Kathy:
It was great to have Alyson there. (& Kirsten, of course; we haven't seen enough of THOSE TWO lately.
I laughed SO hard Saturday night, although when things get physical by the fire; I get a bit antsy.
Scott egging on Leen was hilarious Saturday night.
It's workin' for Holly to be a blonde.
Shelley and I are committed. (Steve adds: Yes, they have RINGS!)
I enjoyed the small group - I think I had a good conversation with nearly everyone.
I can't believe how all the "busy" kids have turned into such nice kids. Honourable mention to Connor, Eric and Amber (and of course Kirsten.)
I am impressed at how Mel & Amber get over tiffs.
The venue was good, and after going to the store a few times, it's too bad we weren't able to spend an hour or two at the beach, but whatev.
Thanks to the Murphys for occupying our busy boy the better part of Saturday - it was nice to be "childless by choice" for a few hours!
My best serene moment was walking to the store yesterday a.m. with Joey. He was sooo funny. He was babbling away like he does then made some statement like "I guess that's just life." lol. He really is an old soul.
Kirsten:
my best memorie was of ultimate frisbe........girls rule!
Leen:
This is probably in the book, but my highlight was Murray's Aquavit powered beerdart game. Between the spectacularly bad shots, the long periods to set up the bad shots and comic commentary, Scott and I were hard put to keep our seats (ok, Scott didn't keep his seat as he fell over backwards at one point and I may have had some Aquavit sponsored balance issues myself). At one point I remember looking to my left and seeing Kirsten in the midst of a fit of giggles. It was a good weekend, but I can't help but smile everytime I think about the game.

Have a great one. We should see if we can get a special guest appearance for the 25th from dick Dave and dick Kevin as they were two of the originals.

Steve: NEW GAMES/ACTIVITIES:
This year's theme was "Cowboy" but there was an undercurrent of "Pirate" as usual. This lead to some unusual statements heard here and there such as, "Arr, pilgrim", and "Ah'm the new Captain in these here seas."
Ultimate Frisbee made it's first of what will likely be many appearances.
Golf Ball Bolo Tube Toss (OK I don't know what it is called, but it is fun)
Hillside Dishsoap Slip and Slide
Smoke Out the Baby Birds

OLD FAVORITES BACK AGAIN:
Washer Boxes (thanks Matt!)
Beer Darts
Meat and Fire. Good.
Slingshot Paintball (slightly watered-down version because some stupids set up their tents in the only ideal spot - oh, wait, that was me)
Holly's brie and carmelized onions. Sooo good. It rivals Fred's Bananas Foster.
Not my thing, but the Foot Spa was there. Paul was not allowed in. Something about toenails.

ATTENDEES (in chronological order):
Boyes; Scott, Kandi, Dunca, Erik and Connor arrived first on Thursday. Christensen; Holly and Murray were soon after (with Debbie Disney). Wilde; Steve, Shelley, Melany and Amber came in the early afternoon on Friday. Van Minifies; Leen, Alison and Kirsten arrived not too long after. Christensen/Sean and Rachelle were next and Paul and Shannon were close behind. Jeff, Kathy and Joey arrived last.

CONSPICUOUSLY ABSENT: Fred. We missed you HARD pardner. And not because of your cooking skills. We missed the rest of you guys who didn't show up as well, but we weren't even sure Fred was not coming until he didn't. John, it's hard to have a Cowboy weekend without a guitar at the fire. We want you ALL out for 2010, which is the 25th Annivesary of the event.

QUOTABLE QUOTES:
Kathy O: "It's too early for champagne."
Holly: "Shannon, do you have any red wine vinegar?"
Holly: "Who brought Aquavit?!!" (Leen puts up his hand) "Asshole..."
Murray: "I can see 4 of everyone." Holly: "That means you can strike out 4 times tonight."
Paul (with Shannon on his lap): "Don't move off my lap, I'm at full sail!"
Steve (with Leen and Paul chasing him): "Help! The Butt Pirates be after me booty!"
Just about everybody: "Jeff, take your 'Bad Bunny' out and drown him..."
Amber (going in to the water): "Omigod, there's rocks! Aaack! That's the bottom...I feel the bottom! Ohh-oh-oh-ooh! SEAWEED!!! There's Seaweed! Eww!!!" (Turns to Mel at the shore): "Melany, it's not that bad."
