June 15, 2011 I got a phone call from Bob yesterday to inform me that he and Elisabeth were married on Sunday, June 12..  Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs. Doty.  I will get some pictures up on the photo album as soon as possible.

June 14, 2011  Joyce received word tht her brother, Bill died today in Winnipeg, after a lenghty illness.

May 7, 2011 - Spring has finally arrived, and with it  a resurgence of energy to try o keep this newsletter up to date.

Two new descendants of  Edward Doty to report on:

Shane and Nikki (Dianne's son) have a new baby, born March 28, 2011, Payton Kiyoko Stauffer-Johnston, 8 lbs. 3 oz. and 24 inches long.  Kiyoko is Japanese meaning "beautiful daughter"'  Bowen thinks she is pretty cool.

Allan has another grandchild.   Darrin and Jennifer have a daughter, born May 5, 2011.  Emmalee Joyce, 7lbs. 11oz. and 21 inches long, a sister for Luke and Taylor.

Joyce's neice, Jill Martin had a baby girl born the same day as Kiyoko.  A sister for Isla Balsam Maher.  I have not yet heard of the name choosen.  It promises to be as colourful as her older sister's name. her (step)grandfather, John, tells me it will contain the name of a tree, like her sister.

December 15, 2010

It has been quite a long time since I have had any news to publish, but latest news from Calgary is great.  Margie had surgery last Friday.  She required a double bypass.  The latest word from Beth and Dianne, who are doing a fine job of keeping the rest of us informed, is that Margie is walking and exercising a bit.  That is good news indeed.  She still has a lot of discomfort, and that is to be expected, but modern pain control drugs are marvelous.  We all hope Margie makes a speedy recovery. Dianne plans to fly to Calgary Dec. 17 to help over the Christmas season at Margie’s house.  Way to go Dianne.

I talked to Wayne on Monday.  He is quite sick with what the Doctor calls the flu.  He sounded pretty choked up.  He is on some medication, and is to see the Doctor again after he finishes the prescription, and we wish him a speedy recovery too.

I had and email from Bob yesterday. He is just back from a week in Hawaii with some of his family.  He has 3 units to pick up for Cubex within the next 6 weeks, and has not yet made further holiday plans.

Joyce and I plan to be in Mexico for Christmas and the New Year’s Eve celebration with Nancy, Rene, Leslie, Doug, Cassie and Reece.  We would like to wish all who read this newsletter a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I had an email from Linda yesterday, reminding me that Mercedes writes a column every Sunday in the Sun chain of newpapers... I read the column for today in the Toronto Sun.  Well done Mercedes!
I poked around a bit and came up with the following site that is well worth a read.  Go to Mercedes Stephenson - It's Your Government
and get the facts about our brilliant cousin and then send her an email if you like.
Here is the site of the Toronto Sun with today's article.

September 1, 2010.
Brother Bob recently underwent heart surgery with the insertion of a stent in a clogged coronary artery.    Margie is awaiting a call to undergo bypass surgery in Calgary.  That is 5 of us now.  Further manifestation of our inheritance of heart problems that claimed our mother's life.

Reece has recently become the ball boy/water boy for the Regina Thunder.  The Thunder are a part of the Prairie Football Conference  (PFC), which is a six member conference with teams from all three prairie provinces. The PFC is a member of the Canadian Junior Football League,  and participates in national championships with two other conferences, based out of Ontario and British Columbia.
He is really enjoying the new experience, and, from all reports, is well received by the team and coaches.  Yesterday he went for team pictures.
He attends practises and games in Regina and on day trips, but is a bit too young to accompany the team for out of town games involving an over night.

August 29  Here is an excerpt from a note from Keith & Linda:
We thought we would drop you a line to mention that Mercedes is now writing a nationally syndicated column in the Sun newspaper chain.  Her debut was last Sunday with an intro followed by her initial column on a following  page.  Her column will run Sundays.  Her second column is running in today's paper. (The Vancouver Sun may be privately owned, in which case, her column may not run there)  Last week, the column ran in the Toronto Sun, Calgary Sun, Winnipeg Sun, etc.
Congratulations Mercedes

July 29, 2010  It's been a while since I have had any news to report.  I talked to Bob today, and asked him to send me a picture of Private Brandon Doty.  He is now assigned toLord Strathcona's Horse, and armored division located in Edmonton.

May 26  An email from Shawyn this morning tells me that Jim has had his heart MRI, and unfortunately, it does show a blockage.  She is not sure yet what the treatment will be.  After his brain MRI today he will have a defibrillator implanted.  If he is up to it Shawyn will see him tonight otherwise it will be tomorrow.  She asks that the family  send all their good thoughts.

Shawyn
May 22 The latest from Shawyn is that she saw Jim on Thursday, will see him today.  She says has improved significantly, and that no surgery is required at this time, he should be released from the ICU today.  He still has some mental confusion, his speech is far better, seems to understand what happened to him now too. He is eating on his own, not very much but no tube feeding now.

May 18  A note from Shawyn says; "I saw Jim this morning, there has been improvement,  he still can't speak well enough to be understood but has eaten a small amount.  The doctor felt that he should leave the ICU in about 2 days.  He is extremely tired can only stay awake briefly, partially due to the shock his body has had and partly the medication.  He will be evaluated tomorrow by the cardiologist, a pace maker may be required."

May 17, 2010    I had an email from Shawyn this morning.  Jim Cardno is in Saint Paul's hospital ICU.  He had a heart attack.  John Hazell (Glenda's husband) and Shawyn are visiting him on alternating days. He collapsed at work last Wednesday, Fortunately their were witnesses that got him medical attention quickly.  He knew Shawyn yesterday for the first time so he is improving,  however he has a long road back to wellness.  We all join in wishing him a speedy recovery.

May 16, 2010.  Daryle and Jay stopped by for a short visit on Friday.  Daryle was in town to pick up Jay and Janice.  They came down for Daryle's 80th birthday party .  Jay's plane came in first, so they came over to the house to await Janice's plane, then they were driving to Carlyle.  Daryle looks real good, and reports that he had a good winter in AZ.
April  17, 2010
I had a phone call from Keith to tell me that June passed away earlier this week.  Funeral service is at McInnis & Holloway Funeral Home in Calgary on Wednesday, April 21.

March18, 2010
Time to get up to date here.
Winter has been here long enough now, and it is time to get serious about Spring.
Most of this is old new now, but to bring you up to date:
We enjoyed a 17 day holiday in HI without our good friends and travelling companions.  They went elsewhere so we were alone.  It was really nice.  There will be a few pictures in the Photo Album page.
Margie and Mike had their trip to Mexico interupted by  a bad experience.  Margie went to hospital and had 2 stents installed by a Mexican Doctor.  She came home in an air ambulance.  doctors in Calgary determined she did not need further surgery, and she is now doing well on medication and is getting into some rehabilitation.
Bob and Elizibeth spent a night with us on their way to Calgary earlier this month.  They had a nice visit with Margie and Mike.  Beth and Dianne were there too.
