HIGHLIGHTS

  • Attended the University of Oklahoma on a wrestling scholarship.
  • After placing 2nd in the Big Eight Wrestling Tournament at heavy weight in 1962, received permission to convert scholarship to a football scholarship.
  • Big Eight football champs in 1962. Played in the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida. Lost the game to Alabama.
  • Big Eight football champs in 1964. Played in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. Lost the game to Florida State.
  • During the 1964 football season, received the University of Oklahoma Football "UG" Award on two occasions as game star against Texas and Missouri.
  • Four years towards B.A., Physical Education (minor in Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology).

  • Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. However, draft rights were traded to the St. Louis Football Cardinals (now the Arizona Cardinals) in 1964. Was the final cut in the Cardinals training camp in 1966.

  • As a defensive tackle, joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders, headquarters in Regina, in 1966.
  • Contributed to the team placing first in the Western Conference.  Secured a birth in the Grey Cup game due to my fumble return for a touchdown against Winnipeg, in the playoffs.  Won the Grey Cup against Ottawa in 1966.

  • Contributed to the team placing first in the Western Conference and secure a birth in the Grey Cup game in 1967. Lost the Grey Cup against Hamilton; Selected to the Western Conference All-Star Team; Received the Schenley Award as the Canadian Football League Lineman of the Year, in 1967
  • Member of the All Canadian Football Team; All-Star Lineman in the Western Conference; Beckett-DeMarco Memorial Trophy Winner-Most Outstanding Lineman in the Western Conference, in 1968.
  • Contributed to the Roughriders placing first in the Western Conference and secure a birth in the Grey Cup game.  Lost the Grey Cup game against Ottawa.  Member of the All Canadian Football Team; All-Star Lineman in the Western Conference, and played in the first ever Canadian Football League East-West all star game; Beckett-DeMarco Memorial Trophy Winner for the second straight year; Member of the Canadian Football Coach's All Pro Team; Selected to the Canadian Football League Team of the Decade; Voted Canadian Magazine Best of the Sixties-Defensive Lineman, in 1969.
  • Member of the Canadian Football League Western All-Star Team in 1970.  Did not play in the All-Star game due to a major eye injury during the off season.
  • Missed part of the football season due to a major knee injury in 1971.
  • Missed part of the football season due to a major knee injury to the other knee in 1972.
  • Was released from the Roughriders part way through the 1973 season.
  • During career with the Roughriders, returned four opposition fumbles for touchdowns.
  • Selected to the Saskatchewan Roughrider 75th Anniversary All Time All-Star Team in 1985.
  • Inducted into the Canadian Football League Hall of Fame and Museum in 1988.
  • Inducted into the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club Plaza of Honor in 1990.
  • Selected to the Canadian Football League Top 110 Finalists' All Time CFL Players List in 2006.
  • Listed in the Regina Leader Post as one of the Saskatchewan Roughriders' top ten players in the teams' history and one of its friendliest players in 2006.
