City, Regional, and State heavy weight wrestling champ in the 12th grade. Finished the season undefeated, and was voted the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the State of Oklahoma High School Wrestling Tournament in 1961.
Won numerous first place ribbons and gold medals in track & field in the shot put and discus in the 12th grade, and set a new city shot put record that year. Voted BTWHS Athlete of The Year in the 12th grade.
Inducted into the Edison High School Wrestling Tournament Hall of Fame in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1973.

During the 1964 football season, received the University of Oklahoma Football "UG" Award on two occasions as game star against Texas and Missouri.

Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys. However, draft rights were traded to the St. Louis Football Cardinals (now the Arizona Cardinals) in 1964. Was the final cut in the Cardinals training camp in 1966.
As a defensive tackle, joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders, headquarters in Regina, in 1966.
Contributed to the team placing first in the Western Conference. Secured a birth in the Grey Cup game due to my fumble return for a touchdown against Winnipeg, in the playoffs. Won the Grey Cup against Ottawa in 1966.
