LEAVING THE BOAT CHECKLIST
Here is a check list when you return hot and/or tired from you sailing adventure. It is easy to forget something. Leaving the Boat
Checklist was developed from Sailing the Catalina 320 Single Handed:
Part III - Returning to Berth
- Detach the main halyard from the mainsail and attach it to the mast; replace the mainsail cover
- Secure halyards to avoid halyard slap
- Check all lines going to the cockpit for proper tension; close all rope clutches; tidy lines
- Store winch handles and the boat hook
- Lift outboard
- Replace plastic covers on compass and outside electronics
- Switch off all electronics, turn main panel and autohelm switches to OFF
- Stow life horseshoe buoy, life jackets, binoculars, camera and other materials
- Lock storage lazerette
- Check that the forward hatch and other ports are closed
- Remove any food not intended to stay on board
- Close sea cocks and inspect the head and bilge to see that all is normal
- Store the stern flag if used
- Complete ship's log
- Take companionway boards from storage and pass them to the cockpit
- Check for car and club keys; take the cell phone
- Grab gear and food bags and leave the cabin
- Close up and lock the companionway
- Go to the dock with the gear bag; close the lifelines
- Check dock lines and fenders
