SHIP'S LOG FOR THE YEAR 2013

36S_9W_45T

2013 projects:

  1. Replaced the cowling gasket on the Evirude 9.9. According to our local dealer, factory original cowling gaskets are not available for this year of motor. North York Marine sells replacement cowling gaskets for Johnson and Evinrude 1955-1985. We purchased ours in white.
  2. Re-applied Sikkens Cetol Marine Natural Teak. This product seems to be standing up nicely.

When I placed the order for the gasket with North York Marine, the owner mentioned a product called Q-Bond. Here is a Q-Bond Adhesive Kit Gadget with Reinforcing Powders New Product News Trade Show Video that explains the product. I haven't used the product on the boat yet, however based on my two yard repair projects I can definately recommend Q-Bond.

Another product that I haven't used on the boat yet, but probably has utility because of its ability to clean stainless steel is Bar Keepers Friend. This product has been around since 1882. It did a marvelous job of cleaning up our kitchen sink, that although new, started to develop rust marks. It looks like new now.

Two products that I had been using and recommending were Penetrol and Davies Super-Tuff. Penetrol does work and empart a shine to the deck but it does yellow too much for my liking. Apparently Home Depot in Canada no longer sells the product. Davies Super-Tuff worked really well to clean the deck even removing the Penetrol when it was time to clean. In 2012 I used Davies Super-Tuff to clean our patio deck tiles. Again the product worked well, but made the deck tiles very slippery. A clean boat deck is nice, but this expained why our boat deck was so slippery for a few weeks in the year. My current recommendation is Star brite Non-Skid Deck Cleaner With PTEF. This video provides a nice product demonstration.

Rhyme of the not so ancient mariner

When there's frost on the pumpkin I make an assumption that soon well be pulling the boats out...... or sumption.

So send me a postcard or drop me a line to just let me know when it's your time and mine.

We'll pull down the mast, empty the head and fold up the sails fore we put her to bed.
