Germán's international experience as an artist and illustrator has given him a unique insight into his art, something which is personified in both his realistic and abstract work.
Germán began his artistic career in 1980 in his native Colombia. In 1985 he received a Bachelor of Visiual Arts degree from the university of Bogota "Jorge Tadeo Lozano". He later honed his talents through studies with master of oil painting Zhu Wei Min, in Beijing, China.
Germán came to Canada and settled in Regina in 1989. Soon after his arrival in the Queen City, he began sharing his talent with the community as an art instructor at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre. He also worked as a studio assistant with well-known local artis Joe Fafard.
Throughout his career, Germán's works have been featured at many collective and solo exhibitions in Colombia, China, Hong Kong, the Unites States and Canada. In addition, several private collections around the world proudly display Germán's art.
Since making Regina his home, Germán has been involved in many art projects around western Canada, His murals, which celebrate the rich history of central Saskatchewan, are prominently displayed at Duck Lake, Fort Carlton, and Humboldt. Regina is the site of other Germán murals, and he has also been commissioned by the Metis Nation of Alberta to paint an oil portrait of the famous Metis leader Louis Riel.
Germán's work has received many awards and
much recognition, including "Best in the Fair" awards at the 1994 and 1995
Saskatchewan Art Shows held at Regina Exhibition Park. In 1996, Germán's
submission to "Art in Harmony '96" in Elk River, Minnesota received Honorable
Mention. 1996 also saw Germán Jaramillo originals selected for prominent
western Canadian art auctions: The Calgary Stampede Western Art Auction,
and "Artifact", where Germán's work joined pieces by many well-known
Canadian artists including Robert Bateman for a fundraising event in support
of the New Life Sciences Gallery at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum.
