Our Trip To Government House

by Shanda

Yesterday my classmates and I went to the Government House to reenact a dinner party in honour of the Duke and Duchess of York. The dinner was originally held in 1901.

It all started when Ms. Guest told us. We were so excited from that point on. We just couldn't calm down. The day finally came. We got dressed up. We stepped on the bus and a burst of joy jumped through my body. It was the most exciting thing.

We were so happy we sang on the bus all the way there. When the bus stopped everyone stopped too. We walked up to the door. Ms. Guest opened the door. I stepped in and immediately went back to1901.

First we put our shoes and coats down-stairs. We came back upstairs and were led into a tiny room where they called out our names. We signed the guest register and got name tags and a card with our name on it. We lined up and a lady dressed as a butler took our cards. We went through the receiving line, stood in a circle and were assigned dinner partners. We went into the dining room. They explained what all the silverware was for. We ate blamonge. Then they taught us how to make crowns out of napkins.

We went back into where the recieving line was and the gentlemen went into the Billiard Room. The ladies stayed and talked. When the gentlemen returned we had some entertainment - poems, piano recorders, and flutes.

When we were done, Ms. Guest took us into the Conservatory and took our picture. We went into the Ballroom. Then with the best feeling ever left in my body we climbed on the bus and came back to school.

All I could think about on the way back to school was how much fun I had.
