George McWillie (RN=20) was born on the 25th of February, 1802 at his parents farm, Cachenhead, situated within Drummuir estate in Botriphnie parish Scotland. His parents were William McWillie & Isabel Shearer.  His father, William was a son of John McWillie & Anna Ord & a great grand-son of, John McWillie and, Elespet McIndie who were born in Inveravon Parish, farmed Blackfold farm in Boharm Parish, then moved were among the first McWillie families who moved to Drummuir Estate farming Mains of Towiebeg farm in the Botriphnie parish   of Scotland.  All of the McWillie families recorded within this web site are related to that family or their ancestors.

George McWillie had spent his entire life  in Botriphnie parish. He had attended the local parish school for his education. As a young adult he commenced work with his father on their farm, Cachenhead and which later on he took over the operation of that farm. At a later date he expanded his farming operation by taking over another farm in Drummuir estate "Midthird".  George farmed and raised his family at Midthird until his retirement.  On his retirement George and his wife Betty moved into a home, "Ardgaithney" until the time of his death there in 1885.  George and, Betty McWillie who was his cousin were married  in 1829 and they had three children all of who preceeded them in death. His daughter Jean, married a, John Watt and they had a number of children. There are descendants of that family still living in Scotland and related member now living in Canada as well. George's wife Betty died in 1895 and they are both buried in the family plot in Botriphnie parish cemetery.

In 1826, George McWillie commenced keeping a diary, reporting on his family and a wide number of other events. For the first four years the diary consisted of a brief summary of yearly events then then he began keeping daily notes from which he wrote a monthly summary. The diaries consist of seven note pads starting in 1826 and ending some fifty years later in 1867. Desendants of the McWillie's as well as others remain indebted to George McWillie for his records of the life & times of people living during that fifty year period.

With the assistance of a number of other McWillie family members we were able to publish the book "The Diary Of A Scottish Tenant Farmer.  1826 -- 1876".  At the request and in cooperation with, Dave McWilliams, Web Master, of Botriphnie & Drummuir Web Site the diaries have been placed on that web site.  The Web site can be viewed by clicking on the George McWillie Diary Books to be found on the top right of  this page and then clicking on the "McWillie Diaries"  that will appear on the Web page. The Web Site also contains a large amount of information and history pertaining to McWillie and related families who formally lived on Drummuir estate for over two hundred years. Botriphnie parish Church cemetery deaths and burial sites are also recorded within the web site which contain information on many McWillie and related family members.
