Itinerary

  • Language and Culture class (Fall 2016)
    • In preparation for the trip to Japan, the Saskatchewan students have the opportunity to enroll in a weekly Japanese language & culture class beginning the fall of 2016. The course has been designed as a special project credit which would count as an elective course towards a students' high school graduation requirements.
  • Saskatchean Hosting Phase (April 2017)
    • Saskatchewan Tours
    • Japanese students shadow SK students at school
    • Japanese Cultural evening (Origami, Calligraphy, Games, Tea Cermony, etc.)
    • Potluck party
  • Day 1 - 14: Two-Week Exchange (July 2017)
    • Fly from Regina to Tokyo and transfer to the Yamate school in Yokohama for a welcome cermony
    • Meet your host family and begin two week experience
    • Tour Yokohama City, gardens, shrines and temples
    • Tokyo City tour and Tokyo Tower
    • Tokyo Disneyworld
    • Cultrual Day party (martial arts, cheerleading, noodle making and eating, etc.) Each student receives a summer Ykata and a t-shirt
  • Day 14: Kamakura/Hakone
    • Say goodbye to host family and friends
    • Tour begins with a visit to Kamakura
    • Great Buddha of Kamakura
    • Hachimangu Shrine
    • Free time in Hakone
  • Day 15: Hakone/Kyoto
    • Travel to Owakudani
    • Free time in Owakudani
    • Lake Ashi Mini Cruise
    • Visit Hakone National Park
    • Ride Cable car up to Mt. Komagatake
    • Travel by Bullet train to Kyoto
  • Day 16: Kyoto
    • Guided Sightseeing of Kyoto
    • Visit Nijo Castle
    • Visit Kinkaku-ji (the famous gold-gilded temple)
  • Day 17: Kyoto
    • visit the Fushimi Inari Taisha
    • Walking tour of Arashiyama
    • Bamboo Forest
    • Visit the Kiyomizu Temple
    • Performance of Traditional Japanese Art
  • Day 18: Kyoto & Home
    • Transfer to Airport for return flight
