In 1982 I began my work with Immigration Canada as a settlement officer. This meant that most of my time was spent seeing and taking applications from recently arrived Vietnamese refugees. After that I was a program specialist at the Regional office of Immigration Canada, and then I returned to the local Immigration Office to manage it from 1990 to 1996. With few exceptions, the Vietnamese Community distinguished itself as very hard working and overcame enormous obstacles.
During my years with Immigration, I received an award for my distinguished contribution to the Public Service of Canada of my work in a number of different areas. I also worked at a visa office in New Delhi, India for a short period in 1993. This gave me some first hand knowledge of what applicants experience when they enter an embassy.
When I left the government in 1996 I started Helpline Immigration Consulting in Regina. Over the last three years I have worked with many immigrants and sponsors from all continents to either immigrate themselves as independent and business immigrants, or bring family members to Canada.
I provide an initial free assessment or consultation. I will tell you what the person's prospects are for immigration. My knowledge of the Immigration Department I think enables me to know what course of action is best under different circumstances.
I also work with colleagues in Australia and New Zealand who are familiar with the requirements for their respective countries.
