Nothing happens that night. Leif goes into the poor section again and walks around and loses his BROACH OF SHIELDING. They leave him his cheap jewellry. He MMs a guy who tries to take his boots.
5th Patchwall Waterday -12degrees Clear
DM Reference:
Grash of Dorgon was very angry at the desertion of his Captain and two privates, and has given orders for them to be "shot on sight". His anger extended naturally to the failure of one of his officers, Major Bummer. Major Bummer has been dismissed for allowing the Captain and two privates to escape without attempting to slaughter them (per Regulation 412.3 Section F). He will not be reinstated until he returns with the head of at least one of the Three on a pig pole (whatever that is). He has commissioned three other fighters to assist him. One is one of Bummer's own troops, one is actually one of Grash's special assassin squad, and one is a ranger recruited in the Gnarley Forest. Major Bummer does not know that the assassin is anything more than a fighter, although he has some suspicions. If Major Bummer does not go after the missing persons, Major Bummer will be offed. If the deserters are found, then the assassin will have them to play with.
On this day, Bummer and his minions arrive in Greyhawk on the very cold trail of the party.
Construction on Shzzt's new home begins. The Architect is a dwarf named Selkek Megnem. Offers to get it done in a month and a half for 45,000N. The conditions are that they work at night and keep the project a secret.
Rusko goes to the Garbage Hill. Meets a rabid dog. 5hp dog (treated as Wild Dog). Rusko kills the rabid dog.
Shzzt goes to find Rench. Rhina offers Garkeim one half of one percent on any given night to be a bouncer. (Ends up being approx. 800 per night).
Rench shows up at the Wizard's Hat.
That night, Shzzt goes to the Golden Wheel. That night, Friedar shows Garkeim just what "Loin Cloth" means. Leif owes Rench 200N for a Pick Pockets job. It is revealed that Shzzt's Mother was beheaded. Rench and Shzzt go to gamble. Shzzt tries to bet on Rench's intuition, which doesn't work. Shzzt loses lots of money and Rench makes very little, but still comes out ahead. Leif takes out a poor beggar in the Slum Quarter just for satisfaction. Rusko tries to get into the Golden Phoenix. Can't get into the Golden Wheel either. Finally gets directions to the Green Dragon Inn. Bill and
Slime are there. Big Dude: AC2 dmg 1-6; Lev 7; 32-15+8=9-36=-27; Thac0:14; named Dikwad . Rusko loses his hand in a fight with the big fella. Luckily, it is a clean sever and the hand is quickly sown back on. Leif offers his RING OF REGENERATION. Since the ring was not worn when the hand was cut off, the party places the hand against the stump, and then damages the area around the hand where it must join the body. The hand's nerves are mended, but the fit is imperfect and some nerve endings are not quite in place. Rusko's DEX is down 4 points until a HEAL spell is cast upon the wrist.
6th Patchwall Earthday -10degrees Clear
Rusko goes to the Temple of Pelor to seek aid. Is told to return the following day. Bill goes to the MU Guild to look for a few potions. Gord sells his Basilisk blood and purchases a "sampling kit" for dungeon adventuring.
DM Reference:
On this day, Melbin books a room for himself at the Wizard's Hat under the name Poul. If any of the PCs state that they are about the common room of the Wizards Hat, they could (10% chance) overhear the registry of the guest. However, this will mean nothing to any PC, and therefore should not even be mentioned. Record who may have overheard in case the subject comes up later. After he gets set up in his room, he disguises as Slimer and enquires about Shzzt.
The other three members of Bummer's squad are staying at the Black Dragon Inn, and await Melbin's report.
7th Patchwall Freeday -7degrees Clear
Rusko returns to the temple. HEAL costs him 650N. Goes to borrow from Shzzt. HEAL is cast, and Rusko is OK (all DEX restored). The party departs for the Ruins. They use a FLY spell to get across (Leif casts). They meet the elves and the dwarfs and discuss what they want to do. An invisible elven MU listens in on some of the planning. The party indicates that they will likely attack the elves. The party goes into the Tower of Zagig and waits for 6 hours. They rest in the room beyond the illusionary wall and make themselves dirty. Rusko drinks of the magic pool water, his CON going to -.003.
DM Reference:
This evening, Melbin (in yet another [High Elven] disguise and calling himself Poul) will attempt to get to know some of the residents of the Wizard's Hat down in the common room. Major Bummer will be staying at the Black Dragon and fidgeting restlessly.
8th Patchwall Starday -1degrees Clear
The party leave the dungeon at 3:00 in the morning. Leif casts another FLY spell and the party goes back over the bridge and back to the city. The temperature is -15.
Dwaven Mae tells Shzzt that his friend "Slimer" was here looking for him. Shzzt finds a dagger-pinned note in his mattress. It says, "Looking forward to Meeting you! -Slimer" Around noon, the party each and every one awakens. Rusko is approached by "Poul" who tries to pump him for information about Steele Bonecrusher and Captain Koole. The party has a meeting at 4:00 in Leif's room. Rusko asks about the two characters, and Shzzt tells the story.
DM Reference:
An assassination attempt will (hopefully) be made on Shzzt on this evening, if enough information has been discovered. The assassination is mounted by Melbin, although it would be against the wishes of Bummer if he knew. Bummer wants the Drow alive to tell him the whereabouts of the other three deserters.
Shzzt and the party go down to see the Mayor of Greyhawk. They claim Squatter's Rights to the Tower of Zagig- must dwell on the land for 15 days of every month or they lose the Squatter's Rights. They go back to Leif's room again and talk some more. They are planning to tunnel in to the other Towers from "their" Tower. Warehouse is 50 x 40.
As Shzzt leaves the inn in the evening, Melbin fires a poisoned bolt from the roof of the opposite building. It goes into the dirt on the road, sending up a spray of dust. Before Shzzt has time to react, a second bolt hits the door frame beside him. Melbin quickly scales down the back of the building but has left the roof hatch open so that pursuit will go that direction. The building is the warehouse of Pines Karey, owner of the Green Leaf Tavern. Removed DM info about warehouse here.
Melbin gets away, and the only clue he leaves behind is an empty vial of poison with the same markings and bottle as one of the vials Shzzt owns (Melbin once trained under Epiter). Melbin and Randa sit with Rusko in the Wizard's Hat later that night, and Melbin tries to pump Rusko for info.
9th Patchwall Sunday 0degrees H.Snowstorm MN-10am 6"
Morning comes. All are alive. Rusko visits Hluk.
Evening eventually arrives. Shzzt is poisoned while he eats supper. Later on, the party separates to look for assassins. Rusko is spotted by the city guard, who are on the lookout for assassins, on top of Pine Kaerey's warehouse. He is arrested and hauled away. Meanwhile, Slime sees a "woman" approaching the Wizard's Hat. She's short, and he figures it is the assassin. He attacks and then hesitates momentarily until the crossbow comes out from beneath her cloak. Both Slime and Bill are killed, and the bodies are dumped in the back alley. Leif finds the bodies (both now headless), then finds Rusko's ring. Bill has turned into a bear after he died (since he is actually a POLYMORPHed bear), and his head will be mounted in the room of Bummer in the Black Dragon within a week and a half.
10th Patchwall Moonday 2degrees P.Cloudy
DM Reference:
Melbin uses two of his 5 potions of Extra Healing that he got from Bill on himself. Melbin tells Bummer he had "a little run in" with some friends of Shzzt, and he then goes to try and fence the Bracers, the Cloak, and the Staff. He also arranges to have "a little package" delivered to Shzzt at the Wizard's Hat. Bummer and company know that Shzzt will come looking for them, so the new strategy is just to sit and wait.
"Messages and Packages, Inc."delivers a package to Shzzt. Shzzt grabs the delivery boy, then opens the box to find Slime's head. Another note is attached to Slime's forehead with a dagger. This one says, "Your Next! -Slimer" Then a guard comes and tells Shzzt they found the assassin. Shzzt disagrees. They describe Rusko, and Shzzt gives them 100N to pay his fines. He is released on probation and should not be found on any other peoples buildings. The 100N finds its way into the guards' pouches.
Leif uses LOCATE OBJECT and FLY to try and locate the CLOAK OF INVISIBILITY that was taken from Bill's dead body.
Leif finds the CLOAK OF INVISIBILTY on Nemlik, who is in the Bazaar trying to sell the Bracers. The big guy is captured by the guards after a massive chase through the mazes of the poor section with Leif flying high cover to point out the man's whereabouts, but the assassin gets away after killing a guard. The guards keep the stuff for evidence (Cloak, Bracers AC6, Extra-Healing). Trial for the prisoner is to be held the next day. Justice is swift in Greyhawk.
The party returns to the Wizard's Hat to prepare for the final assault.
DM Reference:
Melbin returns to the Black Dragon and informs Bummer of the discovery in the bazaar. Suspecting magic at work, Bummer leaves the +1 Ring of Protection and the Ion Stone in some discarded food at supper. He then tosses the Staff out the window into the back alley, along with Bill's Magic Book. Melbin breaks into a room on the first floor, and places the +2 Splint and the +1 Two-Handed Sword inside. Melbin, confessing a little about his abilities and the fact that Shzzt will now come to Bummer, sets several traps in this room. The items are worth money, to be sure, but it is worth more to Bummer to kill Shzzt.
Leif's boots expire at 3:00 and he must land. He investigates on foot until sunset. He just misses viewing. See "Private Faces" by Jeff O'Brien
11th Patchwall Godsday -2degrees H.Snowstorm Luna ¼
Trial is at 2:00. Rusko and Phaedrus practice Longswords. Judge is Sir Anton Palmiran, Chief Judge of Greyhawk. Murder, resisting Arrest and Possession of stolen property. The sentence is Death. Leif goes out and looks again. He tracks the staff to the alley behind the Black Dragon. The party approaches the Inn. The ranger from the balcony goes inside while Shzzt recovers the ioun stone, ring and staff.
Kay and Rusko follow an "assassin" north. Shzzt goes up to the balcony to try and find the Ranger. Finds poison on the inn door. Shzzt goes up to the roof and signals to Leif. They discuss the Inn and its setup. They convert the Ranger and then attack Bummer.
Bummer is killed and the room is set on fire. A maid is killed by a trap. A hole is blown in the wall, but the fire is contained by Rex. The others follow red herrings, but Quartz sees Melbin go South. Leif searches for Melbin to no avail. He has sold his horse and walked South, keeping to the ditches.
Snowstorm starts at 9am and lasts all day and into the next. Bill's Head is mounted on the wall.
DM Reference:
Melbin has 3 X-Heal Potions, a Potion of Fire Giant STR, 2 Poly Self, 2 Potions of Speed, and an Oil of Impact. Rench goes out to look for Melbin and finds trouble at the Black Dragon. He goes to the secondary meeting place, the Green Dragon. Melbin is not there, either, but Rench has previously been told if this should occur he is to proceed with plan "B".
12th Patchwall Waterday -3degrees H.Snowstorm
Shzzt goes to Black Dragon to discuss things.
Snowstorm continues until 9am. A total of 12" of snow has fallen. Kay looks out at the snow and sighs. It will be hard travel to the Castle.
Shzzt finds out that the guy in the red cloak does not have Slime's sword. Friedar is informed of the party's intention to travel to the Castle. Dwaven is told they are going to Urnst and will be back in spring. The other party Jean, Chamdar, Flint meet up just in time to bid them good-bye. They decide to stay at the Wizard's Hat.
Shzzt and company ride South toward Castle Greyhawk. Payday for Schweigy
13th Patchwall Earthday 0degrees L.Snowstorm N-7pm 6"
Party leaves for Castle Greyhawk. Snow begins around Noon. They arrive to find the 3rd level redone. Phaedrus' and Kay's mothers are dead and buried. Phaedrus borrows the money from Fudge, leaving his +3 Sword with Fudge. The Raise Deads fail. The bodies are buried again.
14th Patchwall Freeday 1degrees Snow 10pm-MN 5"
Today Phaedrus and the party make it to the Fort. This day is cloudy but warm. The snow from the previous day melts all day long. At 10pm, it begins to snow again.
15th Patchwall Starday 3degrees MN-5am
Party rides to Greyhawk City. The day is warmer than the last, the snow ends around 5am, and then the day clears and warms rapidly, beginning the melt again.
16th Patchwall Sunday 0degrees Clear
Phaedrus gets money from the bank to cover his debt. Shzzt checks the Black Dragon Inn. Rusko checks on his armor and thoroughly pisses off Hluk. Snow remains, melted stuff turns to ice.
17th Patchwall Moonday 4degrees Clear Snow begins rapid melt.
Party rides to the fort.
18th Patchwall Godsday 6degrees L.Rain N-MN Luna Full
Party rides to the Castle. Arrive at Castle.
19th Patchwall Waterday 9degrees L.Rain MN-3am
Deal finished with Fudge. Sword returned. Clerics of Istus are readied for their trip to the Temple of Ehlonna.
At 3am, the Light Rain which has been falling all the previous day becomes a drizzle, lasting from 4am-8am. The sun then comes out and warms the day to 9degrees.
20th Patchwall Earthday 10degrees L.Rain 8am-7pm
Party leaves for the Gnarley Forest. The party is stopped by several elven druids of Ehlonna who dwell in the nearby grove. The party rests near the grove.
21st Patchwall Freeday 13degrees P.Cloudy
Payday for Quartz 250N/month.
Payday for Slime 300N/month Slime no longer wants payment.
Bill is reincarnated as a Bullywug. The party travels further towards the temple. Party beds down for the night. Sylvan Elves find the party and leave them alone after investigating them.
22nd Patchwall Starday 18degrees Clear
The party travels to the temple of Ehlonna. Goblin and Elf bodies lie scattered throughout. A lone elf is alive in the pool. He is the only survivor of the assault on the temple. They were attacked after they investigated the clearing. Ehlonna worshippers and Sylvan Elves like to be left in the forest when they are dead to return to the ecosystem. Leif flies back to the Druid's grove to inform them of the attack on the temple.
23rd Patchwall Sunday 17degrees Mist 10pm-MN
Leif returns in the evening from the Druid's Grove.
24th Patchwall Moonday 16degrees Mist MN-4am
The party travels back towards the Castle. That night, Satyrs find them and play their pipes. 3x975xp=2925xp Some of the party falls asleep, but the Satyrs leave because Shzzt doesn't fall asleep.
25th Patchwall Godsday 13degrees Drizzle 11am-8pm Luna ¾
1 Giant Spider 20hp Poison Type F Injected Immediate Death/0 Phaedrus' horse is dead.
STONESKIN from Leif. MM from Gord. 4210CC, 4 gems, lots of bones and skulls. Various useless equipment. While the party investigates the hole, a Giant Lynx attacks one of the horses (one of the clerics). Horse-AC7 HD2- hp6 -the cleric's horse. Giant Lynx -hp11, killed by Leif's MM. They travel onward, leaving the gems to be discovered by some other creature. Phaedrus on foot. No other encounters this day.
26th Patchwall Waterday 10degrees L.Rain 1am-5am
It begins to lightly rain at 1 in the morning, stops at 5, continues 6am-Noon, then begins again at 1pm and rains lightly until 4pm. Perfect weather for Bill. The party arrives at Castle Greyhawk in the early evening. They see the clerics safely home. One more visit to the temple and the obligation is fulfilled. The party goes down to the third level and has a farmer skin the Lynx.
27th Patchwall Earthday 6degrees P.Cloudy
Party heads back to the forest. That night, while encamped, a Giant Spider tries to drag one of the party (Quartz) back to it's lair.
2 Giant Spiders -17, 26
The first spider tries to kill Quartz in his sleep. Phaedrus kills the first spider as he awakens. The other attacks Shzzt, who fires a bow at it for 4 pts dmg. Another arrow takes it to 15. It bites Shzzt but does not get a chance to inject its poison. Gord's MM takes it to 8. Phaedrus finishes it off. They check around to find no more spiders.
28th Patchwall Freeday 12degrees Clear
The party travels to the temple of Ehlonna. They are halfway.
