Session Sixteen
I also need the votes for this week's roleplayer. So far only Fred has submitted a vote. This week's prize is (again) 24xp for the player's favorite. Next week I'm thinking of 30xp for the player's favorite and another 15xp for the DM's pick. What do you guys think?

28th Wealsun (Continued...)
That night, as the party is resting in Mykell's room, they are attacked by a group of orcs, coming up from the level where Pall is. There are 5 males and a female. They attack with vigor until one of them spots Mykell. That one flees while another is charmed by X'Ylo. The rest fight on and A'Ha goes down. S'Rang watches in amusement as the female is wounded in the crotch area by X'Ylo. The charmed orc flees after the Giant turns one of its comrades into orc paste. Mykell bashes the female into paste as well. Little Siroth shows up with a frozen orc hand in his mouth, telling the party, "My mommy gottem". They figure the fleeing orcs did not get far. The party then gathers up the equipment of the orcs and checks it out. There are 100 gp and 45 sp. There is also a backpack containg a week's dry rations, flint and steel, a grappling hook, 6 torches, a wineskin, a large shield with an odd symbol upon it, 5 spears, 1 bastard sword, and 2 longswords. All are orc quality, which is not that good. The party then goes down to talk to Pall to see if she is all right. They find that she has only froze one orc (where did the other one go?).

4th Reaping (continued)
The rest of the game happened, but the details are fuzzy. All I recall at this time is something called "banana wine"...
Session Twenty

5th Reaping
They make camp, putting X'Ylo in one of the tents they carry as comforatble as they can get him, and cook the boar. At 11:00 that evening they are accosted by bandits. It seems there are only a few, but as they do exactly what the bandits tell them not to do, the rest of the bandits close in. El'Fross and A'Ha use their faerie fire spells, and all 3 elves use up their mist clouds. When we are forced to leave the game we find all the bandits within the white fog, and the elves on the outside. The bandits are threatening to kill the other member of the party they have found within the fog (how could they see in there?) if the elves do not give up their valuables, while Snf'L is threatening to kill the bandits if they don't leave the elves alone. Is it an impasse? We shall find out next week, or shall I say, next game, since we have not played this game in almost a month now...
Well, this week's game was a bit more reasonable on the monster side. Unfortunately, the party went where I wasn't prepared, but that's the exciting life of a Dungeon Master.
Experience: There were two encounters. The one with the skeletons was worth 325xp and the one with the Osquips was worth 240xp. I was tempted at first to give all the skeleton experience to the cleric and the elf firing the arrows to kill all the skeletons, as they were the only participants in the encounter. But then I reasoned that the other two watched and presumably learned from the encounter. All xp is split evenly for both encounters since there were some spells cast and thief skills were used to check doors and hallways for traps, and a lock was picked. That's 565xp, divided by 4 characters is 141xp per character. That would be 47xp per class, or however the program ends up dividing it because I'm entering a straight 141 per character in the proggy.
A'Ha - 47 MU, 47 F, 47 T - entered and updated
El'Fross - 47 MU, 47 F, 47 T - entered and updated
Snf'L - 47 MU, 47 F, 47 T - entered and updated
X'Ylo - 47 MU, 47 F, 47 C - entered and updated (finally) X'Ylo is now a 2nd level cleric!
The results ended in a tie for this week, and I'm not doing the DM award yet, so I'll go with what I've got.
A'Ha.
The party spends several days checking Pall's level for more secret doors or other features they had not noticed before. They determine that the castle was cut into the side of two hills (forming a bridge between the hills) and therefore it is hard to judge inside dimensions based on outside dimensions.
A descision is made to check out Mykell's level of the castle before going down into the next lower level than Pall's.
The party fights some skeletons without even waiting to see what the skeletons would do. As a matter of fact, they don't even wait for the skellys to move, just turn 'em and burn 'em.
Then they fight 2 (count 'em 2!) Osquips and X'ylo and El'Fross both end up on the floor at the mercy of the viscious little critters. A'Ha saves them from this fate.
Experience:Snf'L and A'Ha gain a total of 175xp for fighting a Wild Boar. The fight was exclusively a warrior thing, so they each gain the xp to their warrior class. 87xp each then, as I am rounding down. The party fought and defeated several orcs as well. The entire party of orcs was worth 90xp to the party, so each character gets 22xp, split between classes based on how much I thought they used each class. I thought the orcs should have been worth more xp, but because Mykell helped the party, I left it at this.
Player's Choice (30xp): X'Ylo
DM's Choice (15xp): El'Fross, for his pretense of being concerned about S'Rang and little Siroth when he really just wanted to take things easy, and his use of his birthday to "take a week off".

A'Ha and Snf'L carry their two unconscious comrades back to Mykell's room to rest the night.
1st RichfestX'Ylo regains consciousness and he tends to El'Fross who is soon up and around. They discuss how they desperately need the armor spell and look forward eagerly to the beginning of next month when the deer leather should be done curing.
Mykell, A'Ha and Snf'L go out looking for wood. X'Ylo is busy in the castle and El'Fross insists he take the week off to celebrate both the festival and his birthday, so neither come along. Snf'L finds a piece of wood he thinks will be excellent for X'Ylo's bow, but it is actually rotten inside and would break if it were to be used. The three go fishing and keep a look out for boats. They see no boats but Snf'L catches 2 fish. Mykell manages to catch 5 with his net.
2nd Richfest
Snf'L spends the day building a bow for X'Ylo. Pall is asked if she worries about little Siroth running around the castle. She doesn't seem worried that he is in any danger. The party goes up to Mykell's room during the afternoon. About 3:00PM or so they hear a sound like wind from the lower level of the castle and a scream cut off quite suddenly. They rush down and see that Pall has frozen in their tracks 5 orcs. The party removes them from the castle (with Pall's permission, of course) and takes them down by the lake. They thaw out the bodies and loot them, finding only a few badly-crafted arrows, some short bows and a few silver pieces. Snf'L checks the ground for tracks to follow where the orcs came from, but cannot find any. They tell Pall of the silver, and she insists that she *ONLY* take half.
Snf'L completes X'Ylo's bow and goes to string it. It breaks in half.
3rd Richfest
El'Fross' Birthday. He takes it easy this day (for a change :)). He spends the day chatting with Siroth and Pall. Snf'L goes back out with A'Ha and Mykell, and finds enough wood for 3 bows. The fishing trip yields 9 fish this time.
4th Richfest
The day of Midsummer's Eve. S'Rang arrives back from whatever his trip was all about. He springs his surprise on the young elves: He has gone to get spell ink and is going to let each of them read his magic missile spell and see if they know it. If they do, they can copy it into their own books using the spell ink he now has. El'Fross had tried previously and did not understand the spell, and A'Ha doesn't have a clue as to how to even read it as it is from a school of magic he is not familiar with. After 4 days of trying, only X'Ylo can understand the complicated spell, and so he prepares to scribe it into his spellbook and also into the spellbook of Snf'L. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
1st Reaping
Snf'L is finishing his third bow job while X'Ylo takes the day to scribe the magic missile spell into his spellbook. Snf'L now wants to make some arrows, so he needs some fresh feathers. He and A'Ha head into the woods to find some birds. They manage over the course of the day to shoot a couple, and they now prepare to head home. Suddenly, out from the bushes comes an angry boar, straight at Snf'L! The normally alert elf is taken unawares, and barely manages to avoid the first attack of the wild animal. X'Ylo runs up to help, but before the boar can be dispatched, Snf'L is gored by the boar and goes down. A'Ha climbs a nearby tree with Snf'L's pack and hangs it there, then proceeds to drag Snf'L back to the castle. What would have been a half an hour's walk normally, takes A'Ha six hours with his burden.
X'Ylo cures Snf'L when they arrive at the castle. The four elves go as quickly as they can into the darkening twilight to follow the trail blazed by A'Ha and to recover Snf'L's backpack. X'Ylo is very tired from his day of spell copying, and A'Ha is quite fatigued by his dragging of Snf'L throught the wilderness, buyt X'Ylo casts a dispel fatigue on A'Ha and they are able to carry on. They are successful in retrieving Snf'L's things.
2nd Reaping
Batch of leather from deer ready. Snf'L does the final step and finds that the leather is all right, but it is not good enough quality for the armor spell. X'Ylo is preparing to spend the day copying magic Missile into Snf'L's book. A'Ha casts comprehend languages and read magic to finally read S'Roth's Scroll.
Experience: I liked what everyone did on a roleplaying scale this week (see below). As far as battles go, El'Fross and X'Ylo took on a couple of orc buggers. They get to split 30 monster xp between them. El'Fross used Wizard and Fighter tactics for the battle, while X'Ylo made use of all of his talents.
Player's Choice (30xp): One vote for El'Fross and one for Snf'L. Since Fred did not vote (voting for Inego Montoya does not count!) he is disqualified and the xp award therefore goes to El'Fross.
DM's Choice (15xp): I'm giving everyone 15xp for roleplaying his session, because I thought everyone did a fine job. Its also a bit of a cop-out, not having to choose the best, but oh well.

2nd Reaping
Snf'L makes quivers the rest of the day as the others do various errands. X'Ylo is busy this day copying magic missile into Snf'L's book (as mentioned already).
The party spends the night in Mykell's room.
3rd Reaping
Snf'L makes more quivers from the deer leather. El'Fross practices with his bow all day out in the courtyard of the castle, and manages to lose 4 arrows and break the other.
El'Fross tells his sad tale of loss to Snf'L who tells him he should practice archery on the sacks in the storage room, to which El'Fross replies, "That's no way to talk about X'Ylo and A'Ha!"
The elves sit down to discuss the mission again. After a lengthy debate, a definite descision is made to not make a descision at the present time.
X'Ylo offers to cast a protection from heat on Pall so she can go out. She says she'd love to go diving in the lake and maybe eat a tree (she is tired of deer). X'Ylo offers to cast a second one on her as well after the first has almost worn off, giving the dragon almost a full day outdoors. She asks if they might babysit Siroth and the party agrees to this.
El'Fross takes X'Ylo out to view the damage he has done to the tree he was firing arrows at. They notice for the first time that there is a thin plume of smoke behind the hill by the front of the castle. Curious, they decide to climb the hill and check it out. As they climb, an old tower comes into view. Hidden from the courtyard of the castle by forest growth, they see now it is near the crest of the hill. They make for that now, since the plume of smoke is not far to the left or right from it. They lose sight of the tower immediately, but their unerring sense of direction within the forest guides them to the tower.
It is a wretched, long-abandoned place. The doors hang (barely) from broken hinges and the stonework is obviously unsafe. The grounds aroudn the tower have been overgrown with plants ages ago, and even the tower itself has greenery growing on it. The tower is much the same shape as the two towers that are part of Black Giant castle.
X'Ylo and El'Fross decide to go in and check it out. They step in and wait a moment for their eyes to adjust to the gloom. In that moment they are attacked by something unseen in the dark! They leap back through the door, avoiding running into each other, and are pursued by two orcs. These viscious brutes attack without mercy, but are slain by the efforts of the elves. X'Ylo is injured, but El'Fross escapes without a scratch. They find 30 sp on the bodies. They are discouraged from checkign the rest of the tower by some falling masonry, but go on to check out the plume of smoke. They encounter more orcs which are apparently guards, so likely this is an orc camp, right on the hill beside the castle. They wisely decide to head back and tell the others.
4th Reaping
The lizard leather batches are checked by Snf'L. Two fo the three batches resulted in excellent quality leather, so the group is ready to replenish their armor spells. Suddenly X'Ylo realizes he can't bless the leather without Holy Water which they party does not have! S'Rang finds this immensely funny.
Inventory adjustments are made as the party prepares to hike around the hill where the orcs are camped and head into the human village, hopefully to procure some Holy Water.
The party tells Pall about the orcs as she prepares to go for her dive, and she heads over the hill and blows down on the orcs. She comes back quite satisfied at the result.
The party stores their extra equipment behind the secret door in Pall's level so it will be safe. Pall enjoys her swim as the party prepares to leave.
Experience: Not much happened this game, but I can't remember having so much fun in a long time. A'Ha gets 30xp for battling himself (even though he lost) and everyone (including the DM) gets 60xp just because of the fun factor.
Player's Choice (30xp): I don't recall any votes, and even if there were any, I am overruling them as we didn't get enough gaming done and my 60xp/each for fun is overly generous.
DM's Choice (15xp): None.

Snf'L and A'Ha decided to take some of the orc hand-axes from the dead orc collection and chop open the door on Pall's level that they had all the trouble with before. A last effort is made to remove Snf'L's broken pick from the lock, but all in vain. So several hours are spent by the two making the door useless. X'Ylo and El'Fross occupy themselves elsewhere. Afet a few hours of effort, the door is open. A'Ha enters and notices a blackened and smudged mirror taking up the entire wall at the far end. He sees his own ghostly reflection, and as he does so, it leaves the mirror and approaches him in a threatening fashion. They do battle, the solid A'Ha and the ghostly wratih-like A'Ha. Snf'L enters the room, concentrating all of his attention on the wraith and trying to move around behind it for a backstab. The wraith wins the fight and A'Ha goes down! Snf'L tries at this point to attack the apparition, but it dissipates into nothingness.
X'Ylo is called in to rescue A'Ha, but no matter what minstrations he administers, the young elf cannot be brought to full health. X'Ylo suspects some evil attack has been made on A'Ha's very soul!
A discussion ensues about what to do about the room with the obviously evil mirror. The two eager young elves have smashed the door, so it cannot be relocked.
Experience: The party met 5 orcs, but sadly let them live. They fought a Wild Boar and gained 175xp for this critter, although they nearly lost X'Ylo thanks to the boar's pig-headedness (pardon the pun) in gouging the cleric's unconscious body. I'm splitting the 175xp up evenly through classes because at this point I can't remember the battle that well.
Player's Choice (30xp): One vote for Snf'L and one for A'Ha. Since neither of the players of these worthy characters voted, there is no award for Player's Choice this week.
DM's Choice (15xp): A'Ha, for the lack of enthusiasm he showed for going into a human settlement, even though it means armor spells.

The travel to the human village begins. The party skirts the hill, spotting 5 orcs in the trees. They let the orcs go up the hill unmolested. They continue on and find a dead orc being eaten by rats. They scare the rats away and examine the orc, but no equipment is found. Later they find the disconnected arm of an orc and some elf tracks. They follow the tracks for quite awhile, but lose them after a half an hour in the rocky terrain south of Lupien Dross.
They encounter and defeat a wild boar, but not until after X'Ylo, their only healer is gored severely and lies near death. Snf'L still has enough high spirits to suggest they find leaves and twigs for a B.L.T. sandwich (Boar, Leaves, and Twigs).
