I thought I'd take a moment to wade into the fray. I don't have much to add to what Scott wrote and in the end, he was primarily responsible for introducing me to the group. Sean played a major role also, but I'll get into that in a minute. Scott and I discovered DnD (are you sensing an ongoing theme yet?) together as he mentioned. In the early days, as DM's go, Scott really sucked. Excuse the dangling modifier. It wasn't his fault though because as players we also sucked (running away only became an option in later games). Over a couple of Carlsberg's one day (I think we were working on a coffee table or maybe an end-table) it became clear to us, in a flash of inspiration that maybe poisonous creatures and 1st level characters didn't belong together - oh well.
Then we met Gary. He was an accomplished gamer of some note and he took us under his wing and became the DM. It wasn't until some time later that we realized that Gary really didn't understand the rules that well and those he knew, he frequently ignored, but the adventures were glorious nonetheless. So glorious that my average in school dropped from a steady 2.5 - 3 to an ugly 1.??? (I forget now). I really had no idea Jeff was in that first Political Science class I was in with Scott. Can you imagine me not noticing such a noticeable character as our man, Jeff. I am ashamed and carry the curse of a decided lack of perception skills. Sorry, Jeff.
I left the world of pre-journalism to work as a Rural Municipal Administrator for a couple of years, but did visit Regina and Scott once or twice while I was away. This is when I met Andy, who was Scott's roommate at the time. By this time Scott had become an advanced D and D player and I was feeling a little inferior (go ahead through your best jokes back everyone - I can take it).
But soon I was back at University pursuing my third career (film and video) and was re-introduced to the game by Andy. Andy was the second DM I played with that was extremely good at killing my characters.
I also happened to live in the same building as Murray and Holly. Sean had a wanderlust back then and we would often find him in our living room watching television and would lead him back to his own apartment, thereby getting to know his parents gradually. In the next building lived a thug-biker named Fred, who turned out to be a pretty nice guy and an avid Risk player.
So over assorted risk games, D and D games, and the sort, I gradually got to know everyone in the group. Some weird card game (Schotskoff - spelling???) fit in their somehow also - I think I met Paul and Shannon and Lionel, and maybe Jeff too come to think of it, that way.
And now, after several years absence and in my fourth career (fifth if you count slack-assery as a career) I am again playing this accursed game, this time with Steve. The others playing are being very patient with me so far. D and D has become far more complicated than I remember, but I'm not dead yet........
The point is....well they really is no point, I just thought I'd add this bit to the myth that is Jeff's (and our) past.
