The art of AvocetGEO

Portfolio

ABOUT THE ARTIST

While working in the early 1980s AvocetGEO often stayed in Swift Current, Saskatchewan dining at a restaurant where pen and ink drawings depicted the beauty of the prairies. At this time AvocetGEO explored photography and darkroom work, air brushing as well as pen and ink using Rotring pens. Life happens and AvocetGEOs exploration of art ended. When AvocetGEO was finished working and not in search or need of employment. AvocetGEO started looking into digitial art, trying many software programs and apps before focusing on Procreate and Tayasui Sketches Pro for the iPad.

It has been said that AvocetGEO's art is reminiscent of Beatrix Potter. Beatrix was primarily self taught, saying if she had been formally educated: "it would have rubbed off some of the originality". As a child AvocetGEO fondly remembers having the book "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" by Beatrix Potter. Perhaps that book was actually the source of AvocetGEO's inspiration, not the prints on the wall of a restaurant in Swift Current?

AvocetGEO creates art for the same reason many artists do: the joy of creating while working out how to tell a story with shapes, lines and colour, and that dopamine feel good moment when the art jumps out and makes me, or hopefully the viewer, say WOW! Another big reason is that art allows me to get my mind off of those life happens moments.
