Religion is then not necessarily Christian at all. A Christian will likely appear to be religious. However, a different standard must be set for the religion of a Christian. Theirs cannot be simply a private set of ideas, opinions, beliefs and practices.
Christians are those who are disciples, that is learners and followers, of Christ. His name is Jesus. He said "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching" (NIV John 14:23-24). Christians take the Word of God and the commands of Christ to be their authority. They make a personal decision and commitment based on those words from God and His Son Jesus Christ.
Christianity is a relationship. We become related to God as our Father and to Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We live in harmony with Christ seeking to know Him better, to fellowship with Him continually and to trust Him for the forgiveness of our sin. We look forward to eternity alive with Him! Is that religion, or is it a relationship with our Creator?
