If you are interested in technology or machinery this is the tour for you. These 2 hour tours will give you an excellent look at how electricity is produced from coal.
The first stop on this tour lets you get up close and personal with some of the largest earth moving equipment in North America. The 2 draglines at the Luscar mine remove 90 cubic yards of earth with each bucketful.
These machines only uncover the coal. There are is host of other machinery that gets the coal out of the ground.
The second stop at the Poplar River Power Station. This is Saskatchewan’s most environmentally advanced generating stations. The tour reveals the inner workings of coal fired electrical generation. See how coal from
the Luscar mine is transformed into 1/3 of the electricity generated in Saskatchewan.
