November 1974:
"Mr. Henry Kissinger concludes from discussions with Soviet-Union and Communist China that both nations consider Sai Gon doomed and are concentrating on expanding their own spheres of influence. The promise of aid from the Soviet-Union encourages North Viet-Nam to accelerate military plans for taking over the South Viet-Nam
21 April 1975:
The fall of Xuan Loc, known as the last battle in defense of the Republic of Viet-Nam
Nguyen-Van-Thieu, the President of RVN resigns. He flees Sai Gon to Taiwan on 25 April 1975.
30 April 1975:
The fall of Sai-Gon.
General Duong-Van-Minh, the last President of RVN, who announces unconditional surrender to the Vietnamese Communists. North Viet-Nam troops take over South Viet-Nam.
Over 100,000 Vietnamese flee from South Viet-Nam to become the first group of Vietnamese refugees.
2 July 1976:
North Viet-Nam proclaims the official unification of Viet-Nam as the Socialist Republic of Viet-Nam (SRVN).
North Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham-Van-Dong becomes the Prime Minister in the new government.
Ha-Noi is declared the capital, North Vietnamese flag, anthem and emblems are declared as official symbols of SRVN.
