357 - A Family of Owls

February 2019 - This project involved using more than carving tools as I first had to turn 5 basswood eggs on my lathe. The eggs are 2.75" tall and 2" in diameter. I then used my carving tools to shape the owls and used my Razortip Wood Burner to burn in all the lines.  Then I used my band saw to cut out the shape of the tree from a piece of white birch which is a hard wood so the shaping of the tree was with a combination of my Fordom, two Dremels and a variety of carving burrs. The coloring was with acrylic paints and finished with a spray on Satin Laquer. I don't spend as much time as I used to in my shop so the whole project took about 2 months to complete as I worked on a couple of other projects during the same 2 months.
