WORLD CURLING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2003 POOL

April 10th ... 11pm ... It's all over!  Big Mac Brian McCusker wins it all
and takes home $132 for his effort!  The younger Burrows silences the
critics and takes second place with a very solid showing ... $66 for him.
Third place and $22 goes to Benny Heeebz.  Well done everyone.
And once again Gina gets her money back with a solid last place performance.

Once again thanks to all for participating.  Hope to see you all again
next year.

April 10th ... 4pm ... women's draw 9 complete...  Brian holds on to a
slim lead over none other than young Cactus!  Should be interesting
tonight!

April 10th ... 10:30am ... mens draw 8 is complete.  Will it happen?
Will the younger Burrows hold on to 2nd place and stay in the money?
We all know that he came in 2nd in the 2002 Brier pool.

April 9th ... 11:59pm ... Day 5 complete ... Brian has pulled out to
a fairly sizable lead - not insurmountable though.

April 9th ... 4:30pm... men's draw 7 complete ...  Looks like Brian is
opening up a big lead!  And what the heck is Cactus doing near the
top of the pack?!!  The bottom hasn't changed much.  And I'd like to
point out to Terry that both Grant and I are ahead of you now.
Lots of time yet though people!

April 9th ... noon... women's draw 7 complete ...

April 8th ... Day 4 complete ... Mr. B. Mac is on top and talking some
smack on the message board.  I wonder if young Mr. Heebz will put
up with that.  That reminds me, I forgot to put up a list of who's who
but everyone has been in the pool before except for Terry, who is a
friend of Grant C. and Dean Hicke, who was just a little late for the
last pool.  The rest you can figure out from the list for the Brier pool.

April 8th ... 11:30am ... the Might Noxin pulls temporarily into the lead!
Newcomer Terry better watch out as both Grant and I have tied him
for 14th place!  hehe.

April 7th ... Day 3 complete... Pat is back on top but it's still anyones ballgame.
FYI, the standings fluctuate a LOT after each draw since some people are
doing better with the men than with the women or vice versa.

April 6th ... Day 2 complete ...

April 5th ... 3 Draws complete ... young Benny has the early lead...

April 5th, 1pm ... Sorry for the delay folks!  Due to circumstances beyond my
control I didn't get to bed until 6:45am last night.  There was no way I was getting
up at 8 to update this damn site.  Anyway, one more pick was in my inbox at
7:48am ... Mr. Nixon slides in under the wire.  That makes 23 entries in total.
Prize money will be:
If there is no BB award:  1st - $138, 2nd - $69, 3rd - $23
If there is a BB award:  1st - $132, 2nd - $66, 3rd - $22, BB - $10

Good luck to all.  chube

Here's the Excel97 spreadsheet

April 4, 2003 ... 9pm ... most of the picks are in.  There are currently 22 entries and
I'm waiting for a possible couple more.  So, I emailed the current picks to the honourable
Johnny Aston for verification.  So, I will accept any entries that are in my inbox by
8am tomorrow morning and I'll have all the picks up on the site shortly after that.
Please note that I probably won't wake up at 8am so it will be closer to noon before
the picks are up on the site.  Good luck to all.

March 18, 2003 ...
Alright, time to start getting you picks in for the Worlds.  The rules are basically the
same, except it is a combined event.

The responses are in and there will be a pool for the worlds.  Most of the respondants
liked the pools the way they were but also thought that something a little different for
the worlds would be fun.  Since this may be the last time that mens and womens worlds
are held together I think that a combined pool will be interesting.  So here are the rules
for the World Championship Pools:

- entry fee:  $10 total.
- rank the mens and womens teams separately, from 10 to 1 in each event, giving the team
you think will have the most round robin victories a 10, then 9, etc... all the way down to 1.
- Points will be the sum of each ranking times the number of round robin victories for
that team.  Your total score will be added together from both events.
- The payout will be 60% for first, 30% for second, and 10% for third.  There will be a $10 BB
award for a last place finish again, but only if there is no tie.  The $10 comes out of the
total prize money before the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place is calculated.
- There will be no limit to the number of entries.  However, if we get 40 or more entries
the payout stucture will be changed to 50% for 1st, 25% for 2nd, 15% for 3rd, and 10%
for 4th.  I will be surprised if this happens though.
- Tiebreaking will be for 3rd place only (or 4th place if 40+ entries).  Ties will be broken by
looking at the head-to-head record of each persons highest mens team, then highest
womens team, then 2nd highest mens, 2nd highest womens, etc... until there is a winner.

The event starts Saturday April 5th at 8am, so all picks must be in by Friday April 4th at
4pm.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  I need the time to get the webpage ready to go.
Please get your entry fee to me a.s.a.p. (making arrangements to pay through somebody
like DBoe or Johnny is ok by me).  If you wish to send a cheque, email me and I'll tell
you my address.

If you have any questions/suggestions please let me know asap.  I will send out my
rankings to the first couple of people who get their picks in so if you have any questions
please change the subject line or I won't open the email until I send my choices.

Teams are below.  Thanks and good luck to all,

chube

Rules:
1.  Rank men's and womens teams separately.
2a.  Give the team you feel will have the most wins a 10 and the least wins a 1.
2b.  Your score is determined by multiplying the ranking by the number of wins and adding them up.
3.  Entry fee is $10 total
4.  Payout for each will be:  1st - 60%, 2nd - 30%, 3rd 10%.  $10 will go to a person who
gets last place alone.  The $10 will be taken off the total prize money before the above percentages
are calculated.  In the case of 40 or more entries, the prize money will be 1st - 50%, 2nd - 25%,
3rd 15%, 4th - 10%.
5.  Results are based on round robin only... tiebreakers and playoffs are not included.
6.  Entry fee must be in chubes hands before the start of the 1st draw.
7.  You may email, fax, or phone me your picks.
8.  I will pick my rankings and email them to someone else before looking at any of your picks.
9.  I will post everyones rankings on this page after they are all received.
10.  Keep this page bookmarked for updates and results.
11. Ties:  If there is a tie for 1st or 2nd the prize money will be split equally.  If there is a tie
for 3rd place only, the tie will be broken to determine who will get 3rd place alone.  To break
the tie the head-to-head results of the top ranked teams for each person in the tie will be looked
at.  For example, if person A ranked Sask as 12 and person B ranked Manitoba as 12, then
if Sask beat Man in the round robin person A would get 3rd place.  If they both had the same
team ranked as 12, then you would look at who they ranked 11, then 10, etc.
If more than 2 people are tied for third, then the same scheme is used but you may have to
eliminate people one by one.  For example, if person A and B picked Sask as 12, and person
C picked Man as 12, then if Sask beat Man in the round robin person C is eliminated and we
look at who A and B rated as 11.  If Manitoba beat Sask in the round robin then person C would
get 3rd place.
I hope that made sense to you, it does to me.  If you want more explanation please let me know.
12.  No entry will be accepted after the start of the first draw.
